Organizer SAHK

SAHK (formerly known as “The Spastics Association of Hong Kong”) has been providing rehabilitation services to the disabled in Hong Kong since 1963. At the beginning, our service target was children and teenagers suffering from cerebral palsy. As a social service organization offering genuine care, we have kept pace with the changing needs of the society. Gradually, we have extended our services to persons of all age groups affected by Autistic Spectrum Disorder, stroke, Parkinson’s Disease, dementia, spinal cord injury, and those who are mentally handicapped. In recent years we have progressively delivered rehabilitation services to clients at home and in the community.

At present, we have 52 service units and we have a multidisciplinary team of more than 1000 staff operating in the following fields: pre-schools, special schools, continuing education, employment, adult residences and training, community and family support and professional services. Every year, over 6,000 families benefit from our services. Our multi-disciplinary team consists of different professionals, including social workers, physiotherapists, occupational therapists, speech therapists, psychologists, special education teachers and nurses, to implement holistic rehabilitation services for our clients. Our clientele ranges from new-born babies to the elderly, and we are dedicated to meeting their unique needs at their different stages of life.

As our services have expanded, we wish to have a new name which can encompass the services of the Association more accurately, reflect the needs of various types of disabled persons, showcase our innovative and quality services, and share our vision, mission and beliefs with the community. In February 2008, we changed our official name into SAHK. The new name in Chinese >(香港耀能协会)
carries the connotation of the service users bringing, both their inborn and learnt abilities, into full play. The name in English, SAHK, which used to be the abbreviation of the Association, signifies our determination to “Succeed and Advance (耀承所授‧卓越展能)”.
