On behalf of the Organizing Committee, I am delighted to invite you to attend The 7th World Congress on Conductive Education which will be held in Hong Kong from 5th to 8th December 2010. The Congress is being organized by SAHK under the auspices of International Petö Association.

SAHK is honoured to host this important Congress as Hong Kong is the second city in Asia having this privilege since its first Congress in 1990. The theme of this Congress is “East meets West : Adaptation & Development”, and what better place to host it than in Hong Kong which is also known as the “Pearl of the Orient”.

We see this Congress not only as a platform for interactions, discussion among professionals, people with neurological impairment, parents but also to further the development and application of Conductive Education into the 21st century. Your support and participation are most treasured to make this Congress a successful and fruitful experience for all.

The 7^th World Congress on Conductive Education

On behalf of SAHK, it is our great honour to invite you all to attend The 7th World Congress on Conductive Education which will be held in Hong Kong from 5th to 8th December 2010.

Conductive Education was introduced into HK in the early 80s’. Over the past twenty years, SAHK (formerly The Spastics Association of Hong Kong) has not only implemented the approach in all our special child care centres, special schools and adult services, but also set up the Jockey Club Marion Fang Conductive Learning Centre in 1994 – a clinical teaching unit cum special child care unit with emphasis on providing training to rehabilitation personnel, to further introduce the CE approach to other rehabilitation agencies in Hong Kong.

In the early 90s’, under the leadership of the late Dr. Marion Fang, SBS, JP and Honorary Conductor and in collaboration with the Hong Kong WHO Collaborating Centre for Rehabilitation, CE was first introduced to Mainland China. It was quickly adopted by rehabilitation institutes due to its remarkable results and ability to adapt to the cultural context. It is now widely recognized as an effective approach for education and rehabilitation of the cerebral palsied children by officials of the various Provincial Departments of Social Welfare and Social Affairs as well as the Disabled Persons’ Federation of the different cities and provinces.

The theme of this Congress is “East meets West : Adaptation & Development” and therefore will provide a good opportunity for different cultures, both east and west, to learn from each other and see the progress made in countries which have recently adopted its use. We also hope that this Congress can be the first step to assess its wider application, to the benefit of disabled persons in need.

Dear Friends and Colleagues,

It is a great pleasure in cordially inviting you to The 7th World Congress on Conductive Education (WCCE) with the motto: “East Meets West: Adaptation & Development” co-organized by SAHK and the IPA (International András Pető Association of Conductive Education), in Hong Kong Convention and Exhibition Centre, 5-8 December 2010. It is also my privilege to announce that the General Assembly of the IPA will join the WCCE 2010 at the same place.

Starting with the first ever (1990) and second (1995) WCCE, in Budapest, followed by the 3rd WCCE in Hokkaido (1999), with the 4th WCCE (2001) in London, we had put together exciting programs that discussed advances, disadvantages and questions of inclusion to the societies and school-integration. Since London it has became increasingly important to introduce applied aspects of sciences appearing in the theoretical background of CE and justifying core elements given by the founders, András Pető & Mária Hári. Theoretical aspects of brain sciences, neuroplasticity, cognition, learning, motivation, intentional activities, and important questions of education, teaching and CE practice got higher profile from the 5th in Budapest (2004) and 6th WCCE in Gothenburg (2007). These world congresses impact on all aspects of Conductive Education. WCCE firmly established as the premier world forum for introduction of advances in practice, research in all areas of Conductive Education. It provides a great opportunity to share in what has happened, be part of what is happening and influence the future direction of the fast growing Conductive Education world.

The International Scientific Committee is planning a very comprehensive scientific program that will cover keynote lectures, update lectures, video symposia, panel discussions, interactive discussions and most importantly, free paper and poster presentations. We invite you to send abstracts, intention to be registered and to visit the website regularly for the latest updates and news, about the organization of the Congress.

The mission of The 7th WCCE should be to give a big push for the development of CE by sharing knowledge and experience with constructive discussions at the congress. I am sure that this coming 7th WCCE will provide a marvelous opportunity to promote collaborative work, training, researches, encourage young researchers in the field and strengthen friendship. In addition, you will be able to enjoy the unique Chinese culture, food, beautiful landscapes and historic sites.
